Do words have the power to shape our reality?
Let’s explore this together…
Two questions psychotherapists always ask their clients:
👉’ What is your earliest memory?’
👉’ What age is this memory from?’
Almost everyone answers with memories from their childhood. (Of course! 😁)
What’s fascinating is that all the earliest memories were formed between the ages of 2 and 3 years.
So what’s so special about this 🤔?
Well, it is about the age of 3 that we develop our ability to speak. It is at this age that we begin to properly understand and use words.
It’s not that we don’t experience anything in the first three years. As we didn’t have the words to express what we felt, our brain never formed proper memories.
What remains with us throughout our lives is our memory, and that is what defines our reality.
Doesn’t matter if we are speaking to someone else or ourselves.
When it comes to words, we have to be careful, mindful and intentional.
Why?
Because:
Our words define our thoughts.
Our thoughts define our actions.
Our actions define our feelings.
Our feelings define our memories.
Our memories define our reality.
